Aquinas Catholic Middle & High School
Aquinas Catholic Middle/High School will have our visit from the AdvancEd Review Team on March 18th-20th. (They will arrive after school on the 18th.) AdvancEd (formerly known as North Central Accreditation) is a group that will review our practices at Aquinas and help guide us in areas that we can improve, especially in areas of instruction, curriculum, procedures, communication, etc. in regards to our five year School Improvement Plan. In the past we’ve had a team from the Nebraska Department of Education review our School Improvement Process at the end of the five year span. AdvancEd serves in place of the state team but offers more detailed observations and suggestions based on the guidelines Aquinas has been implementing since starting our accreditation through AdvancEd in the 2016-17 school year.
Members of the AdvancEd team will observe classrooms on the 19th and 20th. They will simply observe for 20 minutes and mark their survey findings. They may ask students and teachers questions in the classroom if it is appropriate and doesn’t disrupt the learning process. The team is observing student engagement and not necessarily teaching styles. The AdvancEd team will also interview various faculty, students, parents/community members, board/council members, staff and administrators.
They will present a short power point or review to Fr. Timmerman, Dave, Teresa and Ann before leaving on Wednesday. These findings will be shared with the faculty, parents and students. The final report will be sent to the school in the summer and we will share more detailed information at that time.
St. Mary’s will be having their NE Frameworks accreditation visit on Mar. 21. St. Mary’s will be transitioning to the AdvancED accreditation process and will have this final visit from Frameworks to wrap up their last set of School Improvement goals from 2015. Then, St. Mary’s will transition to the AdvancED to align the K-12 accreditation process with Aquinas.
During their visit on the 21st, the visiting team will observe classes and then meet with the School Improvement Team to review processes and progress toward the school’s math computation goal. These visits should not interfere with the instruction for the day. Their final report will be sent later and shared at that time. Please contact Mrs. Zook if you have any questions about St. Mary’s accreditation.
